About This Spot

Akrogiali Tavern welcomes you with the gentle hum of seaside life, where the rhythm of the waves sets a calm, yet lively tone. Nestled right by the water on the shores of Paraliakos in Skiathos, this is a place where the air carries a subtle saltiness, mingling with the scents of grilled seafood and fresh herbs. The pace here is unhurried, inviting visitors to settle in and savor the moment—whether under the warmth of the sun or as twilight deepens over the nearby Bourtzi.

The atmosphere strikes a distinct balance: friendly and bustling without losing the charm of a classic Greek taverna. The space is often lively, filled with a mix of locals and travelers drawn by the promise of honest, sea-inspired fare. This bustle is part of Akrogiali’s identity—a place that feels alive and familiar rather than staged, where welcoming gestures help new guests find their spot even during the busiest hours.

Dining here is less about a formal meal and more about a shared experience with the sea at your side. Plates arrive generously portioned, reflecting the generosity of Greek hospitality, and often embody the freshest catches from the Aegean. Whether it’s the gentle sweetness of grilled prawns or the textured contrast of fried feta with crisp vegetables, the food’s simple, soulful nature complements the surroundings beautifully. Conversations flow easily between bites of smoked mackerel and sips of ouzo or local wine, as the day’s catch lends itself naturally to moments of quiet reflection or lively exchanges among friends.

Akrogiali is rarely a quiet refuge but rather a spirited gathering spot where the local flavors of Skiathos unfold with welcoming familiarity. Those who return often find themselves drawn not only by what’s on the plate but by the feeling of belonging to a place that knows exactly how to celebrate the shared joy of good food and company by the sea.

The price is okay for the portion and quality of food. I didn’t wait that much for my food as well. The shrimp pasta was amazing. Salad’s nice too.

Lovely food and atmosphere. Everything was really delicious and the portion size was great. The place was extremely busy, we didn’t have any reservation, but they accommodated us after a couple of minutes wait. We enjoyed the tavern so much, we visited it two nights in a row

What an incredible meal last night at Akrogiali. This was one of the best evenings in the five times we’ve been to Skiathos. Located right on the water you get amazing views towards the Bourtzi. The food and service matched these views as it was stunning. We started with the Courgette Balls with Tzatziki and the Smoked Mackerel. For our mains my wife chose the Seabass while I enjoyed the best Stuffed Squid ever. This is definitely a restaurant I would highly recommend and judging by how extremely busy they were and how good the food is then you need to make a reservation.

We discovered this restaurant during a walk in the new port, where there was a line to get in, so we decided to make a reservation for the next day. It’s a somewhat typical Greek taverna, but very crowded. The food is good – I ordered the stuffed calamari with feta cheese, and the portion was incredibly large and tasty. However, the ambiance was disappointing: when you arrive, the smell of dish soap (Fairy) is quite strong, and the music is nothing special. On top of that, the prices are quite high for what you get. I’ve had much nicer experiences elsewhere than at this much-hyped taverna. If you’re simply looking for something traditionally Greek, this place is fine, but if you also want a touch of elegance, I would recommend Yalos – same Greek-style menu, but with a more refined atmosphere.

I eat here only for one time because it was a recommended place but I didn't want to come back. I took grilled squid which I didn't like, also Grilled sardines which here good and feta with honey which was too sweet. the food didn't came all together, it came in something like 10 minutes

We really enjoyed the food here, especially the fresh fish and seafood. It is noticeably cheaper than the more high-end restaurants on the island and you get the sense it is a place the locals genuinely love. The seabass, which was listed as the A grade fish on the menu, was excellent and worth every bit of the price, and the stuffed squid was also fantastic. The octopus, however, was a little disappointing as it came out charred and quite dry so I would not recommend it. The atmosphere is lovely with wonderful views over the port, particularly around dusk. The staff are very welcoming and create a friendly feel although service can be on the slow side, probably because the place is so busy in the evenings. It is definitely best to book in advance as there always seems to be a queue.

Food here is 20/10, everything very fresh, seafood-wise. Dont miss this place! Wine has the same price as soft drinks
